Our Republic in USA TODAY: Portland and the Trail Blazers

Our Republic President Justin Haskins has been published in USA TODAY with a new opinion column examining the battle over the future of the Portland Trail Blazers and the city’s deteriorating business climate.

Haskins argues that Portland’s extraordinarily high taxes, burdensome regulations, public disorder, and divisive left-wing politics have made the city increasingly hostile to businesses, investors, workers, and families. The Trail Blazers’ demand for hundreds of millions of dollars in public support, he explains, illustrates how years of destructive policies can create an economy in which politically connected businesses require special treatment to remain.

Haskins concludes that Portland should serve as a warning to communities across America: socialist policies weaken economic growth, drive away investment, and ultimately harm the people they claim to help.
